4 Reasons To Say "No" to Scary Aesthetics Treatments (& Still Glow!)

Aggressive facial treatments may create an overnight lift and glow, but go overboard and your skin will hate you for them with irreversible results to prove its wrath. Here are four reasons why you should trust your instincts and your pain indicators to give overly aggressive treatments a miss.

4 Reasons To Say "No" to Scary Aesthetics Treatments (& Still Glow!)

Aggressive facial treatments may create an overnight lift and glow, but go overboard and your skin will hate you for them — with irreversible results to prove its wrath.

Hands up if you’ve been zapped, injected and peeled, all in the name of beauty? Aesthetics medicine has come a long way since the days of highly invasive nips and tucks. But that doesn’t mean that the plethora of treatments offered by your neighbourhood medi-spa is totally safe for your skin. Here are four reasons why you should trust your instincts – and your pain indicators – to give overly aggressive treatments a miss:

1. Too thin skin

Contrary to the famous Wallis Simpson quote, one can be too thin – or one’s skin, at least. Exfoliative treatments like microdermabrasion and chemical peels may be great for increasing skin cell turnover for an instant glow. However, because they actually slough off the uppermost layer of skin, being overenthusiastic about such procedures or going to an inexperienced therapist may result in thinned skin, which in turn is more prone to sagging and wrinkles.

Try this instead: BSKIN Vita Advanced, a line of gentle yet effective skincare proven to stimulate the formation of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid for firmer, more resilient skin.

2. Toxic hits

Hollywood’s best may be addicted to Botox, fillers and just about anything that could offer an immediate beauty boost. But to paraphrase the wise words of Britney, subjecting your skin to a “poison paradise” is probably not the best long term plan for anti-ageing. While aesthetics injections may offer a quick fix, a study on Botox showed that the toxin “may spread from the area of injection to produce symptoms of botulism”, including muscle weakness and difficulty breathing that can occur hours or weeks after an injection. Meanwhile, consumer advocacy American Council of Science and Health has warned about the dangers of a skin bleaching fad: the injection of glutathione. Some known side effects of introducing the potent antioxidant intravenously include — horror — toxic effects on the liver, kidney and nervous system.

Try this instead: BSKIN White Glow, which is infused with proven ingredients and extracts like Koji Rice Extract and Arbutin, to fade pigmentation gently and safely.

3. More harm than good

Unlike acai bowls or decadent island getaways, the whole “too much of a good thing” adage certainly applies to certain aesthetics treatments. As with any medical procedure, even the most common treatments come with risks. Laser resurfacing, for example, offers highly visible benefits when administered by an experienced doctor. However, it could result in side effects ranging from redness, itching and swelling, to infection like cold sores (when the laser agitates the virus already in the skin) or even hypopigmentation (loss of skin colour when melanin is damaged).

Try this instead: Rather than subjecting yourself to frequent laser treatments, use a potent product like the V3 Intense PAF Concentrate, developed by top Korean skin scientists. It contains an unbeatable 20% concentration of Vitamin C, and has shown to improve skin texture, firm up skin and boost skin radiance after just six weeks. Results are based on an independent clinical trial conducted at the Clinical Trial Centre for Bio-Industry at Semyung University.

4. Don’t try this at home

With the rise in popularity of home-use skincare devices comes the assumption that such gadgets must be safe if anyone could administer them. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. The cheap and popular dermaroller is one such example. This mini rolling-pin covered in tiny needles is said to correct hyperpigmentation or generate collagen by pricking (alright, damaging) your skin to stimulate skin repair. But on the downside, it could cause bleeding and trauma to your skin tissue if done incorrectly or too frequently. Thanks, but no thanks!

Try this instead: The BSKIN ELVi* has been carefully developed by Korean skin scientists for safety and efficacy. This non-invasive, soothing device lifts and treats the skin, with an inert, precious rhodium-coated plate that does not react with the ingredients of skincare products or cause any adverse effect on your skin. Manufactured in Korea, it contains a temperature-controlled mechanism to protect your skin from overheating, and automatically shuts down if left idle for over three minutes.

*Our current BSKIN ELVi is sold out. Look out for our upcoming launch of BSKIN ELVi Pro in January 2021.
